TRE was originally developed by Dr David Berceli PhD to assist large populations following mass scale trauma. While counselling and psychological debriefing have a place in mass trauma recovery, our response to trauma always includes an automatic body based response rather than only a psychological one. The discharge and completion of these body based responses is critical for the resolution of trauma and minimising the risk of developing PTSD.
As TRE is easily taught in large groups and doesn’t require recalling or talking about current or past experiences, it is a cost, time and stigma free process for people affected by natural disaster along with the emergency services and health & welfare staff supporting their recovery.
Since the introduction of TRE to Australia in 2010, Australian TRE Trainers Richmond Heath & Jelka Slapar have provided trauma recovery workshops for people affected by natural disasters including the Victorian black saturday bushfires, QLD floods in Toowoomba and Ipswich and the Christchurch earthquake in NZ.
